(a) Platon: of Athens, comic poet, who lived around the time of Aristophanes and Phrynichus, Eupolis and Pherecrates.1 His plays are twenty-eight in number: Adonis, Women from the Festival, Griffins, Daedalus, Feasts, Greece or Islands, Europa, Zeus Badly Treated, Io, Cleophon, Laius, Laconians or Poets, Metics, Ants, Dolt, Menelaus, Victories, A Long Night, Wool-Carders or Cercopes, The Man in Great Pain, Poet, Peisander, Envoys, The Little Kid, Sophists, Alliance, Costumes, Riff-Raff, Hyperbolus, Phaon. His style of writing was quite brilliant.

(b) Middle <comedy> was something allusively insulting, of which the best known was Platon, very brilliant in his style. He was not the philosopher, but another man, also an Athenian. These are said to be his plays: Griffins, Cleophon, Envoys, The Little Kid, Sophists, Alliance, Costumes, Adonis, Women from the Festival, Daedalus, Greece, Feasts, Europa, Zeus Badly Treated, Io, Laius, Laconians, Ants, Metics, Dolt, Wool-Carders, Victories, A Long Night, Peisander, The Man in Great Pain, Poet, Riff-Raff, Hyperbolus.
