τοῦ Φιλοξένου δὲ τοῦ Λευκαδίου Δείπνου Πλάτων ὁ κωμῳδιοποιὸς μέμνηται (fr. 189 K.-A.)·

ἐγὼ δ᾿ ἐνθάδ᾿ ἐν τῇ ἐρημίᾳ

τουτὶ διελθεῖν βούλομαι τὸ βιβλίον πρὸς ἐμαυτόν. (Β.) ἔστι δ᾿, ἀντιβολῶ σε, τοῦτο τί; (Α.) Φιλοξένου καινή τις ὀψαρτυσία. (Β.) ἐπίδειξον αὐτὴν ἥτις ἔστ᾿. (Α.) ἄκουε δή.

ἄρξομαι ἐκ βολβοῖο, τελευτήσω δ᾿ ἐπὶ θύννον . . .

(5d) ἀπὸ τούτου τοῦ Φιλοξένου καὶ Φιλοξένειοί τινες πλακοῦντες ὠνομάσθησαν. περὶ τούτου Χρύσιππός φησιν· ‘ἐγὼ κατέχω τινὰ ὀψοφάγον . . .’ τὰ δ᾿ αὐτὰ καὶ περὶ τοῦ Κυθηρίου Φιλοξένου ἱστοροῦσι καὶ Ἀρχύτου καὶ ἄλλων πλειόνων . . .
