ΒΟΥΚΟΛΙΚΑ

Βουκολικαὶ Μοῖσαι σποράδες ποκά, νῦν δ᾿ ἅμα πᾶσαι ἐντὶ μιᾶς μάνδρας, ἐντὶ μιᾶς ἀγέλας.

Ἀλλος ὁ Χῖος· ἐγὼ δὲ Θεόκριτος, ὃς τάδ᾿ ἔγραψα εἷς ἀπὸ τῶν πολλῶν εἰμὶ Συρακοσίων, υἱὸς Πραξαγόραο περικλειτῆς τε Φιλίνης· Μοῦσαν δ᾿ ὀθνείην οὔτιν᾿ ἐφελκυσάμην.

The Chian is another man; the Theocritus who wrote this book is one of the many that are of Syracuse, the son of Praxagoras and the famed Philina, and his Muse is the Muse of his native land.
