Paullus is said to have stated in a speech to the People upon obtaining his second consulship that he stood for his first consulship because he wanted office and for his second because the People wanted a general. Therefore, he would

In Cicero it is noted that Paullus’ eloquence was conducive to his prominent public position (T 1).

On His Consulship and the War in Macedonia (F 2A–D)

Several speeches connected with Paullus’ election to his second consulship in 168 BC and his subsequent waging of war in Macedonia have been put into his mouth by ancient historians (CCMR, App. A: 168).
